Our History

CMI Congregation has more than two hundred years of experience in the field of education.

CMI fathers came to Munnar in 1952, buying the Korandakadu Palace from Rani Sethu Lakshmi Bhai, the Princes of Travancore.  They made tremendous changes in the spiritual, social and cultural life of the people in and around Munanr.  Carmelagiri English Medium School, a recognized school under the Kerala state board, was started on 3rd August 1995. Accepting the popular demand for a high school, it was shifted to CBSE syllabus in 1999. It is managed by Carmel Education Trust of Carmel Province Muvattupuzha of the CMI congregation.

The school is set in an internationally well known tourist centre - the passionate locale famous as “the Kashmir of south India”, almost 6000 ft above the sea level. Blessed with the natural beauty of the Kannan Devan Hills, surrounded by the beauty of hills and valleys, we have Carmelagiri CMI Public School, 6 kilometers away from Munnar along Mattupatty Road.

Unaffected by the scorching heat of summer sun and the bustle of the plane, the school is privileged to have conductive climatic conditions suitable for better teaching learning process. Now the Carmelagiri School has the total strength of 925 students, 40 teachers and 15 non teaching staff.
